New API endpoint provides privacy-safe star history data
GitHub introduced a new star history REST API endpoint that allows you to track repository star growth over time while protecting stargazer privacy. This new endpoint provides aggregate data without exposing individual user identities, complementing earlier restrictions on direct stargazer listing endpoints.
Track repository star growth over time with the new star history REST API endpoint without exposing stargazer identities.
Earlier this year, stargazer listing endpoints were restricted to admins and collaborators to protect user privacy. Now you can get the insights you need with a privacy-safe alternative.
With the new endpoint, you can:
- Retrieve historical star counts with timestamps without exposing individual stargazer data.
- Update tools and integrations that previously tracked star growth before these privacy restrictions took effect.
