Asana Release Notes August 2026
August 2026 release includes AI Studio instruction suggestions, reference custom field grouping/sorting, Pages collaboration with version history, rich text in custom fields, AI Teammate mobile profiles and prebuilt skills, Sunday-start timesheets, sandbox environments in AsanaGov, and organization-wide data retention policies.

The August release notes bring a mix of improvements across project views, AI Studio, Pages, mobile, and admin workflows. We pulled together the highlights below so you can spot the changes that matter most for your team.
Community Requested Releases
Starter tier:
- AI Studio instruction suggestions: (✍️ AI Studio can now suggest clearer rule instructions) Get optional suggestions to improve the instructions you write for AI Studio rules, so you can clarify vague prompts and create stronger automations without starting over.
Advanced tier:
- Group and sort by reference custom fields: Organize project and portfolio views by grouping or sorting by reference custom fields, making linked relationships easier to manage. This update follows a Product Feedback conversation about making reference fields more powerful and flexible. The topic remains open for voting as filtering is not yet possible.
New Releases
Personal tier:
- Pages: Collaborate on Pages in Asana with version history, inline comments, AI-assisted drafting, and task creation.
- Desktop app 2.7.2: Update the desktop app to receive fixes for malicious-link handling and argument-injection risks.
Starter tier:
- Rich text in custom fields: (📝 Rich text in custom fields is now live!) Format text custom fields with headings, lists, links, and images to keep structured content clearer.
- Task pane custom field search: Find custom fields by name or value in the task pane without scrolling through long field lists.
- AI Studio Usage API: Retrieve credit-utilization and seat data with date-range filtering and fields that support incremental reporting.
TBAO (Timesheets & Budgets) add-on:
- Sunday-start timesheets: Use a Sunday-start weekly view to review and complete a contiguous Sunday-Saturday timesheet for teams whose workweek begins on Sunday.
AI Teammate add-on:
- AI Teammate profiles on mobile: Search for AI Teammates, open profiles, review assigned tasks, assign work, and request access to restricted profiles from iOS and Android.
- Pre-built AI Teammates and skills: Choose from prebuilt AI Teammates with curated skills for common roles, then tailor those skills with your own reference material.
- AI Teammates building rules with human review: Create and edit rules with AI Teammates through the rule builder, then review and publish the changes yourself.
- AI Teammates reading rules: Ask an AI Teammate to summarize rules in a project or portfolio, including triggers, conditions, actions, status, relationships, and recent execution history.
AsanaGov:
- Sandbox in AsanaGov: Test workflows and settings in isolated sandboxes before applying changes in production while retaining AsanaGov compliance and security controls.
Enterprise+ tier:
- Data retention policy: Configure organization-wide retention controls from the admin console, set object-specific periods including less than three years, include messages, and exclude teams with the data retention policy.
Improvements
Personal tier:
- Updated modes navigation: Use the updated modes navigation experience in Asana.
