Hi Asana Community
Here’s what shipped in Asana this September, grouped by the kind of update so you can scan for what matters to your work. I’ve put the Community-requested updates first. You can find the full September 2026 Release Notes in the Help Center.
Community Requested
- (Personal) Markdown copy/paste: Paste Markdown into Asana editors and see it convert into rich text across Pages, descriptions, comments, record details, and text custom fields, building on the Community request for more Markdown support.
- (Personal) Threaded comments: Reply directly to comments in threads to keep discussions organized and preserve context across web and mobile, building on requests for threaded comments.
- (Personal) Syntax highlighting: Highlight code reliably in text-editor code blocks, with support for languages, themes, line numbers, folding, indentation, and copy-to-clipboard, building on the Code snippets in Asana request.
- (Starter) Recoverable custom fields: Restore accidentally deleted custom fields and their related values, rules, and charts from the saved deleted search within the recovery window, answering the request to restore a deleted custom field.
- (Starter) Round robin assignment: Distribute incoming work evenly and reduce manual triage by adding round robin to the Rules set assignee action, as requested in this Community thread.
- (TBAO add-on) Multiple approver support: Add multiple approvers to an approval flow so your team can collect required sign-offs on one work item, answering the request for multiple approvers in Timesheets & Budgets add-on.
New
- (Personal) @Asana in Slack: Mention Asana in Slack to create tasks from conversation context or privately retrieve information about work in Asana.
- (Starter) AI Teammate custom MCP integrations (BYO MCP): Connect AI Teammates to self-hosted or vendor-hosted MCP servers so they can work with external tools using each user’s own authorization.
- (Starter) AI Studio self-serve activation: Enable AI Studio through a guided self-serve flow so eligible users can get started on their own.
- (Starter) AI Teammate access to work widget: View which work items and attachments an AI Teammate can access from its read-only access widget.
- (Starter) Dash/AI Teammates build rules: Ask Asana Dash and AI Teammates to create and save simple active rules, or open Rule Builder with prefilled guidance for complex rules.
- (Advanced) Bulk add from portfolio sharing: Add people in bulk to projects where you already have permission to manage membership as an editor or admin.
- Multi-product licensing: Manage access across multiple Asana products through a more flexible licensing model, instead of a path centered on Work Management.
Improved
- (Personal) Desktop app 2.8.1: Update the Asana desktop app to version 2.8.1 for dependency updates, improved sign-in protection for identity information, and persistent menu bar positioning.
It’s great to see so many Community-initiated requests becoming reality! Which one was your favorite? Let us know in the comments, and if you have any questions, ask away!
